An embedded system is a special-purpose computer system designed to perform one or a few dedicated functions,[1] often with real-time computing constraints. It is usually embedded as part of a complete device including hardware and mechanical parts. An interesting development in this area is configuring an FPGA with several different core processors and/or DSPs. What is exciting here is that the FPGA can be dynamically reconfigured with more/fewer cores, DSPs, etc to meet the requirements at hand. Coming up with a way to model this for adaptive environemnts could be interesting.
